Apple (AAPL -0.50%)Microsoft (MSFT 0.64%), and Nokia (NOK 2.27%) are all having tablet events this week, all of which take place tomorrow. Nokia is hosting Nokia World in Abu Dhabi and may unveil a Lumia 2520 tablet running Windows RT 8.1. Microsoft's Surface 2, which has already been announced, will see a retail launch as well. Apple hopes to dominate the headlines though with its own iPad unveiling.

Microsoft, having taken a lot of lessons to heart following the $900 million inventory charge for Surface RT devices, has improved the Surface 2 in numerous ways. However, Surface 2's biggest weakness is its app ecosystem, and Microsoft can only do so much about that.

Nokia may join Microsoft in the Windows RT camp, after all other OEMs have called it quits on the half-baked operating system. This all comes as Microsoft is preparing to buy Nokia's devices division, which would include this upcoming tablet.

Apple's existing iPad design is starting to age, and it's time for a redesign. The iPad 5 will probably take some design cues from the iPad Mini, and the smaller tablet could get a Retina display.
