What is a non-fungible token (NFT)?

An NFT is a unique digital token that contains an item's ownership and copyright information that lives on the blockchain. From pieces of digital art to gaming assets to music to sports trading cards, almost anything can be an NFT.

If something's fungible, it can be replaced with another item of the same type. For example, a $20 bill could be swapped for another $20 bill -- or two $10 bills. In contrast, an original piece of art or a signed first edition of a book is non-fungible. They are unique.
