We love our investing analogies here at The Motley Fool. Investing is like golf. Investing is like sudoku. Investing is like a church fire.

While some of those comparisons may be, well, a bit of a stretch, let me make a comparison that I'm confident many of you will agree with: Investing is like fantasy football.

No, really. Stacking your team/portfolio at any one position leaves you vulnerable. In both cases, you're competing against sharks looking to profit from your bad trades. Short-run success is often fleeting and usually unpredictable, while long-run triumph is built on doing your own research and following a defined, proven strategy. Trust me, I could do this all night.

In the spirit of tonight's NFL regular-season opener, we thought we'd celebrate by creating fantasy teams that incorporate different investing strengths. Our writers have lined their teams with some of our favorite stocks, including, among others, Motley Fool newsletter recommendations such as China Mobile (NYSE: CHL), Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT), and Petrobras (NYSE: PBR).

But enough with the pregame show. It's time for the kickoff.

“The Next Great Investment”… That’s how a top global investor describes India’s potential. On Nov. 28, The Motley Fool’s Tim Hanson returns to India to prove it. Follow along in real time and get his TOP pick first (Hanson returned from China in July with a stock that’s up 169%!). Enter email below.
