Mom, Meet Warren Buffett

OK, Mom, I'm guessing that the pet rock I gave you for Mother's Day last year hasn't gotten much attention. And I know for a fact that you never hung up the Bob Marley poster that I bought you two years ago. I'm sorry to say it, but those were just plain mistakes. Rest assured, though, because this year I've got the perfect Mother's Day gift for you: Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE: BRK-A) (NYSE: BRK-B).

Wait, wait! Don't shake your head like that! I realize that reinsurance may not be your cup of tea, but how can you not like that loveable GEICO gecko? And are those cavemen a stitch, or what? Both flow from the wonder that is Berkshire Hathaway. And it doesn't stop there; in one neat little package, Berkshire is everything that you could want for Mother's Day.

Starting with sweets, who can turn down a delicious Blizzard from Dairy Queen? That's a Berkshire company. And you might be interested to know that Orange Julius is owned by Dairy Queen, so go ahead and pour yourself a frosty, delicious orange beverage while you're at it. Of course, while ice cream is great, chocolate is perfect for Mother's Day, and few companies do chocolate like See's -- yet another Berkshire company.

Now that we've knocked off your sweet tooth, we can get on to replacing some furniture with an endless selection from Nebraska Furniture Mart, Star Furniture, RC Willey, and Jordan's Furniture. We can't leave the kitchen out of the picture, so the next stop is The Pampered Chef. And let's not skip the details -- some Benjamin Moore paint can refresh a room and some Larson-Juhl frames can spice up the walls. Yup, all of the above are under the Berkshire umbrella.

Not fancy enough? Well, we can also load up on fine jewelry from Ben Bridge, Borsheims, or Helzberg Diamonds -- take your pick, they're all Berkshire companies. And if you'd like to take a vacation, perhaps you'd be interested in taking a NetJets plane to get there.

And though Berkshire doesn't own these companies in their entirety, you have to respect a company's taste in stock picking when its holdings include the likes of Coca-Cola (NYSE: KO), Procter & Gamble (NYSE: PG), Nike (NYSE: NKE), and Home Depot (NYSE: HD).

And if all of this doesn't have you convinced that Berkshire Hathaway is the perfect Mother's Day gift, how about I introduce you to the company's commander in chief, Mr. Warren Buffett. Warren topped Forbes' list of the world's billionaires this year with a staggering net worth of $62 billion. And what's even better is that he got to where he is by espousing ideas like "a deal is a deal," and "you don't have to cheat to get ahead." Surely, this is a CEO that any mother can appreciate.
