You know a game has legs when a trampling herd heads for the console to see a preview. That's what it was like the opening day of San Diego Comic-Con, when Sony's (NYSE: SNE) Online Entertainment Group previewed its DC Universe multiplayer online gaming environment, which is expected to be available in November.

As an investor, there are two things interesting about the crush of people waiting for a try at DC Universe. First, plenty of video games were available. Activision Blizzard (Nasdaq: ATVI) showed off a new Spider-Man-themed game at the show, and South Korea's NCSoft demonstrated a new version of its highly popular multiplayer online game, City of Heroes.

In this clip, Sony Online senior producer Wes Yanagi talks with me about the attractiveness of Time Warner's (NYSE: TWX) DC Comics characters as licensed properties and the business of playing make-believe.

Oh, and for the record ... I'd create a flying, ice-powered acrobat.
