Although we don't believe in timing the market or panicking over market movements, we do like to keep an eye on big changes -- just in case they're material to our investing thesis.

What: Shares of natural gas fuel provider Clean Energy Fuels (Nasdaq: CLNE) jumped 10% today on bullish comments from none other than President Obama.

So what: Details of Obama’s speech were leaked to the media early this morning, and one of the highlights was his discussion of the need for more alternative fuels to oil. He specifically mentioned natural gas vehicles as a way to meet his goal of cutting oil imports by one-third within a decade.

Now what: If there’s someone you want in your corner, it’s the president of the United States. This is just one speech, but it already has me rethinking my neutral position on Clean Energy Fuels from two weeks ago. I would like to see more policy details before throwing everything I have into the stock, but now may be the time to turn long-term bullish on Clean Energy Fuels.
