With all of the focus on the chaos of Black Friday in the days leading up to it, the foot traffic was about the same as it was the previous year, up only 3%. Year-over-year sales were actually down slightly. The real story was online traffic. Cyber Monday sales were up a whopping 30% from the previous year. Given online sales are currently only 5% of all U.S. purchases, and two-thirds of the world's population doesn't have an Internet connection yet, this market still has room for rampant growth. The current dominator in this space is, of course, Amazon (AMZN 1.33%).
