Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer (NYSE: PFE ) is enacting a fresh round of layoffs, according to media reports. The reports say the company will let go of a number of U.S.-based sales representatives whose job is sales of primary care products to health care professionals.
In an official statement, company spokesman MacKay Jimeson obliquely confirmed the reports, saying "we are making changes in some segments of our field force to better match the future needs of the business." His statement did not provide details as to how many employees would be affected by the cuts, nor did he provide a time frame for the layoffs.
The company had 98,800 employees as of the end of September.
