Apple (AAPL 0.52%) has seen Android stake out a dominating market share lead across 2012. The rival platform accounted for nearly 65% of smartphone market share, far ahead of iOS' 18% share of smartphones. Fool senior technology analyst Eric Bleeker says that slipping market share will continue in 2013.

However, he notes that market share losses will come mainly as smartphone growth moves to areas like China, India, and Latin America. While Apple doesn't rank in the top five in terms of smartphone market share in China, it's still dominant in the country from a profitability measure.
