Defense contractor Northrop Grumman (NYSE: NOC ) has been awarded a three-year $9.2 million contract by the U.S. Army to produce hand-held precision targeting devices (HHPTDs), a precise battlefield targeting system weighing less than 5.5 pounds.

Northrop Grumman vice president of the laser systems business unit, Gordon Stewart, was quoted in a company press release as saying: "The HHPTD puts the targeting accuracy needed for today's precision GPS munitions in the hands of the warfighter."
