Tesla Becoming a Serious Player in Car Business

After winning Motor Trend's "Car of the Year," Tesla Motors (NASDAQ: TSLA  ) has become a serious player in the car business. Even after electric vehicle whiffs from General Motors, Nissan, and Ford the company continues to line up customers as fast as it can make products.

What sets Tesla apart is higher performance and better range than the competition. Now that a charging infrastructure is becoming more common throughout the U.S. the future is bright for this auto underdog.

Near-faultless execution has led Tesla Motors to the brink of success, but the road ahead remains a hard one. Despite progress, a looming question remains: Will Tesla be able to fend off its big-name competitors? The Motley Fool answers this question and more in our most in-depth Tesla research available for smart investors like you. Excuse me! Tesla has not become and will not become a "serious" player in the car market for many years. Justr in the United States, auto makers are selling around 13 million cars a year. Tesla at best might sell 40,000 cars in 2013. That works out to 0.3% of the auto market. You call this serious?? So lets work on getting your facts straight, ok? Now, on the other hand, Tesla shares have been doing very well. The EV market is led by the quality and range of their S model. Ultimately, all vehicles will be electric. Thats worth considering...when thinking about Tesla.

looking at volume, you have a point jamesdan, they are not a serious player.

looking at the fact that they have the best car with a plug on the market by a considerable margin, I think the author has a point, they are a serious player already. fwiw, that best car with plug includes all such cars I know of with known release dates... BMW I3, Cadillac ELR, etc.

TESLIVE. How perfect. The Time Management Clock synced with mine at midnight. I’m sure it will be a great success but don’t know why you need me there. You have a great team and I’m sure everyone will get onboard once they see what you are doing. It’s just such a long way to the coast and the general’s stink bombs are here fouling the air. You are leading a movement in technology and I’m not going to be much help stuck in another abandoned warehouse. And what’s this about a nutty discovery at Comical? I have dozens of YCs outside ready to pounce and all I have around me are broken tech, pigeon crap and layers of dust. I’m tired, almost out of water and thousands of miles away. You’re nuts. Good luck in getting those last parts.
