On Wednesday, the Department of Defense announced the award of two contracts worth a combined $29.6 million to aerospace and munitions supplier Alliant Techsystems (NYSE: ATK  ) .

The first award, a $9.9 million firm-fixed-price contract, directs Alliant to support "solid rocket motor warm line smart transition efforts" related to the Boeing (NYSE: BA  ) LGM-30G Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile, the last-remaining land-based ICBM in the U.S. nuclear arsenal. According to the U.S. Air Force, the U.S. had 450 Minuteman IIIs in its arsenal as of July 2010.
