Is This the Makings of Another Massive Apple Win in China?

In the following video, Motley Fool tech and telecom analyst Andrew Tonner discusses the announcement from the head of the Chinese Ministry of Information Technology, Miao Wei, in which he said that he expects the Chinese government to begin issuing 4G licenses this year. The big three names in Chinese telecom, China Mobile (NYSE: CHL  ) , China Telecom, (NYSE: CHA  ) and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU  ) have all started building out 4G networks. While Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) currently has contracts with China Telecom and China Unicom, it is not yet available on China Mobile. Andrew tells investors how the adoption of 4G in China could give Apple access to China Mobile, and its customer base of 700 million.

There's no doubt that Apple is at the center of technology's largest revolution ever, and that longtime shareholders have been handsomely rewarded with over 1,000% gains. However, after its recent massive backslide, there is a debate raging as to whether Apple remains a buy. The Motley Fool's senior technology analyst and managing bureau chief, Eric Bleeker, is prepared to fill you in on both reasons to buy and reasons to sell Apple, and what opportunities are left for the company (and your portfolio) going forward. Andrew, why would this not be just as large of an opportunity for Samsung and other Apple competitors? Maybe I missed it, but what distinguishes this as an opportunity specifically for Apple? Thanks for your numbers on China. Very informative. Spot

Nice but what he fails to relay is that China Mobile is in bed with Nokia and Nokia also makes 4G phones.

123spot, with respect to your question ... ask a Chinese person what is the finest restaurant in your vicinity. Don't rely on your own personal favorites you have to go to where the Chinese person would go if they wanted to spurge, maybe for a Chinese New Year celebration with family.

Eyeball the parking lot. You will find plenty of higher end Mercedes, some 7 Series BMW and maybe ... just maybe a Lexus. But you won't find a single Kia nor a Hyundai.

The Chinese wouldn't be swayed because you can get a plastic Samsung for $50 cheaper than an iPhone. They don't think that way :-).

if you speak to young well educated hardworking chinese men and women you would realize they are very logical and are extremely well informed - they are more techie than the average american and already prefer samsung galaxies ....samsung has built the galaxy because in the asian market the consumers are very picky and much more technically informed....they do not hold the iphone in very high esteem especially since the iphone 5 had so many problems and the display is so small..

secondly china mobile is the largest carrier in china and as such has as the largest demographic / subscriber base, and that would b e the very bottom of the income groups in china so apple would have very little opportunity with CM / and its quite humorous to hear all the rumors of when apple signs the china mobile deal it will own asia ...this will never happen and apple cannot make phones cheap enough to satisfy the lower income group in china....so sorry.
