Seth Godin: Dare To Do What Matters

The video below is taken from an interview that Motley Fool analyst Brendan Byrnes recently had with Set Godin, author of The Icarus Deception. Godin is also a talented public speaker, marketing guru, blogger, entrepreneur, and respected thought leader.

Seth's forward thinking and contrarian views are critical considerations for finding success in life, business, and investing.

It's the same approach our own Chief Investment Officer, Andy Cross, took when selecting "The Motley Fool's Top Stock for 2013." I invite you to uncover his market-beating thinking in this new free report. Just click here now for instant access.

Transcript:

Brendan: It's kind of a fine line between trying to learn from these individuals -- Steve Jobs as you mentioned before -- and also trying to keep that away and not have that influence you at all. How do you rationalize those two?

Seth: I think that that voice in your head that says, "This might not work" ... we've been pushed to listen to that voice. For me, the way I know it's a good day is if I hear that voice when I wake up in the morning. If I'm doing something that "might not work," I'm onto it.

That's what the book is about. What I am pushing people to do -- and I made a kids version of it for adults, called V is for Vulnerable -- is become vulnerable. Become open to doing things that might not work.

Confront the shame of having someone say, "How dare you?" and instead say, "Yeah, I dare. I dare to do some work that matters." This discomfort is your compass. When you are feeling uncomfortable in the intimacy of what you are creating, and the impact of what you're capable of doing, that's how you know you're on the right path.
