Rentech (NYSEMKT: RTK) has reported a quarterly loss in its Q4 and 2012 results.For the quarter, total revenues were $92.5 million, up sharply from the $63.1 million in the same period the previous year. Attributable net, however, swung to a loss of $3.8 million ($0.02 per diluted share) from Q4 2011's bottom-line profit of $2.3 million ($0.01).

On average, analysts had been expecting revenue of $91.7 million and a per-share profit of of $0.02.

For the full year, the top line at the agribusiness company was $261.9 million, or 31% higher than 2011's $200.1 million. But net profit was notably weaker, landing at $6.8 million ($0.03 per diluted share) against the previous year's $11.5 million ($0.05).
