YouTube says it now serves video to more than 1 billion unique users each month. Facebook reached that same milestone in October, CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a status update at that time.

Google (GOOGL -2.17%) -owned YouTube characterized the milestone using a series of statistics in a blog post last night, including pointing out that all 100 of the top brands identified by trade magazine Ad Age sponsor Google ad campaigns on YouTube.

In terms of scale, the YouTube team says "nearly one out of every two people on the Internet" visits monthly -- roughly equivalent to 10 Super Bowl audiences or the world's third-largest country.
