Ford's Best-Selling Vehicles in a Cool Infographic

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words -- or, in this case, 2 million cars and trucks.

The following infographic provides three different takes on Ford's (NYSE: F  ) vehicle sales, ranging from the type of vehicle sold, to the brand, and finally to a larger perspective on total sales since the turn of the century. As you'll see, while Ford has made considerable progress over the last few years at evenly distributing its sales fleet and increasing total unit sales, there's still a lot of lost ground to make up.

I like it. But it's a little short, don't you think?

This graphic could be so much better if colors were used to elucidate rather than to decorate.

The pie chart set up a color scheme (albeit with a limited palate): cars in dark orange, SUVs in reddish orange and trucks in light orange.

In the second chart, that makes F-series a car, Fusion an SUV and Escape a truck...what's all that blue? If the colors in the second graphic matched those in the first graphic then the meaning would be clearer to those who haven't memorized the entire Ford lineup.

As extra credit, then, the left-to-right order of the boxes in the legend could be changed to match the left-to-right of the colors in the chart itself.
