Yahoo! (NASDAQ: YHOO) has launched a new mobile app using technology it acquired when it bought Summly last month.

The company yesterday announced the launch of a new Yahoo! mobile app for iPhone that it says will better serve mobile users' daily habits. It uses the technology Yahoo! received from its recent acquisition of start-up Summly to drive better content discovery. Acquired on March 25 for a reported $30 million, Summly is a mobile news-reading app that summarizes articles into a few sentences.

Similar to the Summly app, the new Yahoo! app will let users personalize their experience by choosing which news topics they want to read about. At the same time, they can choose which stories they would like to see less.

On its surface, the Yahoo! app also has a new redesign. Users will notice that the app's background scrolls through newsfeed images. "With the immersive imagery of our virtually endless newsfeed, the new Yahoo! app has both great technology and beautiful design front and center," wrote CEO Marissa Mayer on a company blog.
