Apple and Google Need DISH to Win Sprint

Sprint (NYSE: S  ) is in play, and DISH Network's (NASDAQ: DISH  ) surprise bid for the country's third-largest wireless carrier is huge.

BTIG Research analyst Walter Piecyk suggests that Apple (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) and Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL  ) should do whatever it takes to help DISH succeed, and he's absolutely right.

I argued that Apple should wrestle Sprint away from SoftBank two months ago on the thesis that Apple can't afford for Sprint to follow its larger wireless carriers -- AT&T (NYSE: T  ) and Verizon Wireless -- into tiered data plans. Apple needs unlimited connectivity to keep buyers of its iPads and iPhones engaged. Google also has plenty to gain, and not just to champion its Android platform.

In this video, longtime Fool contributor Rick Munarriz explains the reasons why DISH is the serial renegade that would be the best fit for Sprint.

Well, Apple has its strongest sales on big carriers with tiered data plans, almost everywhere on earth. The mass exodus from AT&T and Verizon to Sprint or T-Mobile has not happened, and Apple is strongest on the most expensive carriers throughout Europe.

    So, who needs whom here?

This is what we as consumers can do to fight big cable companies. If they'd listen to the consumer in the first place sites like this wouldn't exist.

On that note, pay for Netflix if for no other reason then they work the way consumers demand. I give them money just because I want them to replace Comcast.
