Apple Targets Google for the First Time

Throughout Apple's (NASDAQ: AAPL  ) "thermonuclear" war against Google  (NASDAQ: GOOGL  ) Android, the Mac maker has historically shied away from targeting the search giant directly. Instead, Apple has always assaulted Android OEMs, including Samsung, HTC, and Motorola, to name a few.

As part of its lawsuit against Samsung, Apple is requesting a court order Google to hand over source code related to Android. Since Google would be a third party, it would have less rights than Apple or Samsung when it comes to "reciprocal discovery."

    While GOOG is not a party, AAPL does not have discovery rights against GOOG for production of things which may contain trade secrets, proprietary information, etc.

    Reciprocity is not the issue.

    "Shied away"? Very biased language.

    In any case, Motorola is part of Google.
