Google (GOOGL -1.97%) is looking to ramp up YouTube revenue with a monthly subscription option

YouTube said this week that in response to creators asking for greater flexibility in monetizing and distributing content, YouTube has launched a pilot program for a small group of partners to test out the new subscription plan. The subscription channels start at $0.99 a month. Each channel will offer a 14-day free trial, and many offer discounted yearly rates. Subscribers will be able to watch on their computer, phone, tablet, and TV.

The 53 paid channels currently in the pilot program include Jim Henson Family TV and UFC Select, which will offer full episodes of Sesame Street and classic UFC fights, respectively. Over the next weeks, YouTube plans to continue to roll out paid channels.
