BlackBerry (BB 2.70%) has just released the first major software update for its new BlackBerry 10 operating system, BlackBerry 10.1, which will be rolled out for free through carrier partners over the coming weeks. The company is adding or improving a handful of features.

BlackBerry 10.1 will support PIN-to-PIN messages between BlackBerry smartphones, which will be included in BlackBerry Hub. The update will also bring improved attachment support in emails. Notifications will be more personalized, and the company is adding more accurate cursor control. The update will also add HDR shooting mode to the camera, which combines different exposure levels.

An alert will be displayed in the notifications section of the Hub when the software update is available for download or users can manually check in the settings menu.
