US Airways (NYSE: LCC) announced today that it has tentatively been awarded permanent flight rights between Charlotte, N.C., and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
The U.S. Department of Transportation released its tentative approval today, a move that would bring permanency to US Airways' connection between Charlotte, its largest hub, and South America. The airline first started flights between the two cities on June 8, but only via temporary frequencies leased from another carrier.
US Airways Vice President for Legal and Government Affairs Howard Kass noted in a statement today :

US Airways is delighted to have the new Charlotte-Sao Paulo service made permanent and underscores how important Charlotte is to the US Airways network. Our new service from Charlotte, the U.S.' second largest financial center, provides our customers in more than 85 communities with easy one-stop access to South America's most important business market.
