Stratasys' (NASDAQ: SSYS  )  MakerBot Digitizer 3-D scanner has some serious implications for the 3-D printing industry. Available this October for $1,400, the Digitizer makes 3-D scanning as easy as clicking two buttons, which effectively opens up the world of 3-D scanning to everyday users.

The easier the 3-D printing process becomes, the more likely it will see widespread adoption. In the following video, Fool.com contributor Steve Heller makes the case for why the Digitizer is a huge step forward for 3-D printing adoption and how this development could benefit more than just Stratasys' business.

The Economist compares this disruptive invention to the steam engine and the printing press. Business Insider says it's "the next trillion dollar industry." And everyone from BMW, to Nike, to the U.S. Air Force is already using it every day.
