The Rules Have Changed for Today's SUVs

The Chevy Tahoe and Suburban -- as well as the similar GMC Yukon -- are extremely important to General Motors (NYSE: GM). The company dominates this highly profitable full-size SUV space with a 74% market share. Ford (NYSE: F), with its Expedition and Lincoln Navigator twin, is a distant second place behind the GM fleet -- though it's widely expected to offer redesigned 2015 models as well. Meanwhile, Nissan (Armada), Toyota (Sequoia), and others fight for the leftovers.

Thus, GM's unveiling of the redesigned Tahoe and Suburban last week in New York was officially a Big Deal. Our roving reporter Rex Moore was at the event and, along with senior auto analyst John Rosevear, was generally impressed with the new vehicles.

In this segment of a multipart video series, Rex goes straight to the designers and engineers for details on the refreshed vehicles. Today, he speaks with lead designer Bryan Priebe about what interiors mean for today's SUVs -- especially since drivers expect plush comfort whether hauling kids, dogs, or lumber.

This is just one more example of GM showing that it builds some of the best vehicles in the world. NONE of the foreign auto companies or even Ford are in the same class as GM. Yes, Ford and Chrysler build some fine examples of Great American Vehicles, but they do so using entirely too many foreign parts. GM uses more domestic parts in their vehicles than Toyota and Honda combined and we all know (or should know) that buying and driving foreign vehicles is domestic terrorism. We need to stop the madness and buy ONLY American vehicles before it's too late to save our economy and our future.
