Following the launch of the Moto X, Google (GOOGL -1.97%) is likely preparing to launch its newest Nexus 5. Like Nexus devices before it, the Nexus 5 is expected to target the mid-range unsubsidized market. LG appears to be on board to manufacture the device, despite prior comments from executives that it wasn't interested in future Nexus devices.

There have also been reports that Apple's (AAPL 0.52%) iPad event is scheduled for October 15. Numerous product families within the Mac maker's lineup are due for refreshes, including MacBooks. After unveiling its Touch ID fingerprint sensor in the iPhone 5s, investors may wonder if the iPad will get similar treatment.

The Touch ID sensor has been named the most likely source of production bottlenecks, though, and as such, Apple may be allocating those to its higher-margin iPhones instead. Eventually, Apple may look to bring Touch ID to other devices, but probably not this year.
