The Department of Defense announced 64 separate contract awards worth $3.51 billion Wednesday. Of these, defense contractor Northrop Grumman (NOC -0.22%) won four:

  • an $85.3 million contract to support U.S. Army Small Tactical Radar -- Lightweight (STARLite), Synthetic Aperture Radar/Ground Moving Target Indicator (SAR/GMTI) systems.
  • a $40.4 million contract to pay for all logistics support activities needed to support RQ-4 Global Hawk drones and their subsystems in the field. Northrop will be responsible for supporting fielded air vehicles, their engines, payloads, ground segments, and support segments through Sept. 30, 2014.
  • a $40 million contract to perform engineering services on T-38 Talon trainer jets and F-5 fighter aircraft for the U.S. Air Force through Sept. 27, 2018. Northrop's primary role here will be checking and ensuring systems integrity (airworthiness) on the aircraft.
  • and finally, a $24.1 million contract to overhaul seven different Tailpipe components on Air Force B-2 stealth bombers by Sept. 30, 2017.
