Ford (F 0.66%) was a late arrival to the Chinese auto boom, but the company has been working hard to make up for lost time. Ford's sales are up big so far this year, and the company just posted another eye-popping year-over-year gain for September.

Now, a tantalizing possibility lies within reach: Could upstart Ford outsell Toyota (TM -1.35%) and Honda (HMC -0.90%) in China?
