Forget what the headlines say. Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has a strong premise and a loyal and active fan base, Fool contributor Tim Beyers says in the following video.

How do we know? Pop culture news site IGN recently polled readers about their favorite new fall TV show. Agents topped the list at 26.46% of the vote, followed by the new NBC drama The Blacklist. 21st Century Fox (FOXA) scored twice in the poll, with Sleepy Hollow ranking third at 13.42% and Brooklyn Nine-Nine in fourth with 11.99%. No other show touched double digits.

One poll doesn't tell the whole story, of course. Yet it may be telling that Agents grew what had been a shrinking audience with the latest episode, "The Well," which drew 6.89 million viewers versus 6.67 million viewers for the prior installment. A tie-in with the Walt Disney (DIS -0.83%) blockbuster Thor: The Dark World probably helped. Yet it would also be mistake to not also credit the show's loyal following, Tim argues.

Do you agree? Do you expect Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. to keep gaining viewers, or is it too late for the show? Please watch the video to get Tim's full take, and then leave a comment to let us know where you stand.
