It's another busy day for the tech rumor mill. South Korean conglomerate Samsung (NASDAQOTH: SSNLF) is reportedly going to be launching a handful of new phones in the first quarter of 2014. It's widely expected that one of the new models will be the Galaxy S5, the company's high-end flagship smartphone. The S5 is rumored to feature a metal case and a super-high-resolution display.

Apple (AAPL -0.35%) and Samsung are longtime rivals in the smartphone space, where the iPhone and the Galaxy compete head-to-head. However, the Galaxy isn't as important to Samsung as the iPhone is to Apple. Samsung's unit growth really comes from its lower-end phones, not from the expensive Galaxy line.

In this segment of Tech Teardown, Erin Kennedy discusses Samsung's rumored new phones with Evan Niu, CFA, our tech and telecom bureau chief.
