5 Investment Ideas to Play the Housing Boom

Investment ideas in the real estate market recovery are easy enough to find. Most homebuilders have treated investors to ridiculous returns over the past two years as the housing market bottomed out and bounced back.

However, let's look beyond the low-lying fruit of residential developers. There are, naturally, plenty of other companies that are benefiting from the strong bounce in real estate prices.

In this video, Rick takes a look at five investment ideas that he sees as winners cashing in on the recovery, without having to lay down a foundation, or worry about drywall.

Rick suggests Zillow (NASDAQ: ZG  ) and Trulia (UNKNOWN: TRLA.DL  ) as smart plays among real estate websites. He also like Lumber Liquidators (NYSE: LL  ) and Trex (NYSE: TREX  ) as home improvement plays, and Netflix (NASDAQ: NFLX  ) as a stealth "stay at home" play for new property buyers.

Thanks to Rule Breaker I've been building a large position (for me) in Zillow. Their data base and real time valuations (Zestimates) is far ahead of Truila; is far broader than; and drawfs coverage of Redfin - which does a superior job in very limited markets. With Z's new relationship with HGTV; their revenue from widespread rental referrals; and their clickthru and referral revenue from their new Zillow Digs App, I believe Z could be the next Mega-stock.

And the wildcard is their current base building in Commercial and Industrial segments. Don't know when and if it ever comes to fruition, but the revenue potential is enormous. Good call Fools!
