"Slowly the night blooms, unfurling
Flowers of darkness, covering
The trellised sky, becoming
A bouquet of blackness
Unending
Touched with sprigs
Of pale and budding stars"

-- "Flowers of Darkness," Frank Marshall Davis

It's National Poetry Month -- hence, the poetic description of treasures unknown, like the stocks I'm about to show you.

My Foolish colleague Todd Wenning has brought you a few updates on the best buys on the market, as computed by the Motley Fool CAPS hive mind. Here's a more focused version, showing you what CAPS thinks are the best opportunities in a single sector, namely the technology industry.

So here's the list, distilled from market data and input from more than 26,000 investors like you and me:

Company

Market Cap (Millions)

Ultra Clean Holdings (NASDAQ:UCTT)

$378

Satyam Computer Services (NYSE:SAY)

$7,440

Tele Norte Leste Participacoes (NYSE:TNE)

$6,390

Xyratex (NASDAQ:XRTX)

$684

SRA International

$1,370

Sonic Foundry (NASDAQ:SOFO)

$136

Radvision

$456

Ness Technologies (NASDAQ:NSTC)

$476

FactSet Research Systems

$3,260

Benchmark Electronics (NYSE:BHE)

$1,470

Data snagged from Motley Fool CAPS, and current as of 4/12/2007.

This list shouldn't be taken as a formal recommendation of the stocks in it, but rather as a starting point for your own research. If more than 26,000 CAPS players agree that these are the top tech stocks today, there ought to be an investment opportunity or two here.

Underfollowed underdogs
The listees do have a few things in common, other than qualifying as technology stocks with excellent CAPS ratings. There is a pronounced lack of interest from Wall Street; only SRA has more than 15 analyst followers. Couple that with positive earnings -- except for up-and-down maverick Sonic Foundry -- and a pattern starts to emerge.

Not one of these stocks looks outright overvalued on a PEG basis, and some, including Tele Norte and Ness Technologies, look dirt cheap. This appears to be more a value lineup than the growth monsters one might expect from the technology sector. And while these companies are underfollowed, they aren't all small-cap players. If you like the comparative stability of mid-caps, Satyam and Tele Norte (again!) might be for you.

Foolish finale
While these companies do look good based on the player input we have gotten so far, you might have new insights to share that could change the game for some of them. We need to hear the whole story, so feel free to log in and add your own take on any of these promising tech investments -- or on any stocks whatsoever. It's fun, it's free, and it's making us all better investors through the power of community.
