<THE HARRY JONES PORTFOLIO>
by Harry Jones
(March 30, 1999) -- A stock broker called me last night just as dinner was ending. He was a fast talker. He talked fast and loud. He wanted me to roll out of the index fund and into one of his suggested funds. He said his firm's mutual funds could beat my investment and that they have low fees, too. He also asked if I had more money to invest, because I'd opened the account with the minimum. I told him I didn't adhere to the minimum balance without a reason (it was all I could afford). He said that was all right, but my money would grow quicker invested in one of the company funds. I didn't say anything except that I wasn't interested. I wish I could have shown him the dogs.
The S&P fell 0.72% today.
