With a market capitalization of well over $700 billion, it's fair to say that Berkshire Hathaway (BRK.A 0.80%) (BRK.B 0.46%) has a limited ability to produce the market-shattering returns investors associate with the name. However, Markel (MKL 0.33%) is a much smaller company with a similar business model that investors might want to take a closer look at.
