E-tail behemoth Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) announced this morning that it will be teaming up with the United States Postal Service to begin delivering customer orders on Sundays. The program will start in New York and Los Angeles, expanding to broader swaths of the country in 2014. The new plan will apply to all Amazon customers, including Prime members.
It's clear Amazon obviously benefits from this competitive edge, but there are also advantages for the USPS. Package delivery is a money-maker for the Postal Service, and this move will set it apart as the sole carrier that delivers on Sundays.
Motley Fool analyst Taylor Muckerman thinks this is a great play by Amazon, as it makes the company's services even more convenient (and appealing) for customers. He sees this as a way for Amazon to widen its competitive moat. Despite the stock being near all-time highs, Taylor likes the stock and believes in CEO Jeff Bezos.
