3 Little-Known Streaming Perks of the Amex Platinum Card

Many or all of the products here are from our partners that compensate us. It’s how we make money. But our editorial integrity ensures that our product ratings are not influenced by compensation.

Most people get The Platinum Card® from American Express for the flashy travel perks -- like airport lounges, 5X points on flights booked directly with airlines or with American Express Travel® up to $500,000 on these purchases per calendar year, hotel upgrades, etc. And honestly, that's where most of the value is.

But if you dig into the fine details (I'm a credit card nerd and it's literally my job), this card's loaded with under-the-radar perks that you can enjoy from your own couch.

Here are three little-known streaming benefits that Amex Platinum Card holders should know about.

1. Walmart+ includes Paramount+ streaming

Walmart+ doesn't get nearly enough love. The Amex Platinum Card comes with credits to cover the full cost of a Walmart+ membership (normally $12.95/month). Terms apply; enrollment may be required.

But here's where it gets fun… Walmart+ includes a Paramount+ Essential streaming plan. So you basically get two different subscriptions.

You'll still get all the usual Walmart+ perks -- like free delivery from your local store, fuel discounts, early access to deals -- plus access to shows like 1883, Survivor, and every season of MacGyver (which I fully intend to binge this weekend, no shame).

The Paramount+ subscription can be set up and verified after you set up the Walmart+ account. Just be sure to sign up and pay monthly with your Amex Platinum Card and the credits will roll in automatically.

2. Max out the $240 digital entertainment credit

This one's not-so-hidden, but a lot of people aren't using it the right way. Every year, Amex Platinum Card holders get up to $240 in digital entertainment credits (terms apply; enrollment may be required) -- that's $20 per month toward eligible streaming services.

Here's how to unlock the full value:

  • Choose your services wisely. As of now, eligible platforms include Disney+, a Disney+ bundle, ESPN+, Hulu, The New York Times, Peacock, and The Wall Street Journal. Netflix is not on the list.
  • Enroll in advance. You need to activate this benefit inside your Amex account for it to take effect on your card.
  • Use it monthly. The credit doesn't roll over, so make sure you've got an eligible monthly subscription, billed to your Amex Platinum Card.

For me, the Disney+ bundle with Hulu and HBO Max is the most appealing. Even if you pay a little extra each month for the ad-free tier, maxing out this benefit gives you a total $240 in streaming value each year.

3. Hidden streaming deals in Amex Offers

Even the best deal-hunters forget about this golden Amex perk…

Inside the Amex app or desktop portal, there's a tab called "Amex Offers." It displays a rotating list of discounts, coupons, or cash back offers for various retailers, services, travel sites, and more.

Click into the Entertainment category, and you'll sometimes find streaming services available with discounts or cash back credits. I've seen offers in the past for HBO Max, YouTube TV, Discovery+ and more.

These are limited-time, targeted deals. Meaning not everyone sees the same ones pop up. So it's worth checking the Amex app every so often.

All you have to do is tap "Add to Card," and the savings apply automatically when you're billed.

More than just a travel card

The Amex Platinum Card's $695 annual fee isn't cheap (see rates and fees). But there's value way beyond airport lounges.

The little perks can quietly save you hundreds if you know where to look. And with a big refresh coming later this year, chances are we'll see even more lifestyle benefits sneak in.

That means more fun for you -- and more weird perks for me to nerd out on.
