Capital One Venture X Business Review: Classy Travel Perks and Simple Rewards

Review Updated
Joel O'Leary
Many or all of the products here are from our partners that compensate us. It’s how we make money. But our editorial integrity ensures that our product ratings are not influenced by compensation.

I've reviewed a lot of business credit cards over the years. And most of them fall into one of two camps: overly complicated or a bit underwhelming.

But the Capital One Venture X Business (see rates and fees) hits differently.

It's refreshingly simple. You earn 2X miles on all other purchases outside Capital One Travel categories with no bonus games to play. And the travel perks are actually useful -- including my favorite: airport lounge access.

Add in the $300 annual travel credit and a massive welcome bonus… it's one of the easiest premium cards to justify, even with its annual fee.

If your business spends big and you travel even a few times a year, this card might just be your new best friend.

Our highest-rated credit cards have:

  • An average rewards rate above 2% (or 2x points or miles)
  • Attainable welcome bonuses that make up for any annual fees
  • Low annual fees or a balance transfer fee of 3%
  • Top perks that make running a business easier, like integration with expense-tracking software, premium travel benefits, and free employee cards.

What I like about the Capital One Venture X Business

After digging into a few of the top features, it's pretty clear what sets this card apart from the other top business credit cards… An immediate return on investment.

Here's what you can look forward to with the Capital One Venture X Business:

$300 annual travel credit

This perk alone knocks out most of the card's $395 annual fee (see rates and fees). And it's super easy to use.

Each year, you get $300 back when you book flights, hotels, or car rentals through Capital One's travel booking site.

The credit is automatic, too -- no hoops, no claims, no weird exclusions.

If you take even one work trip a year (or tack a vacation onto a business trip), you're almost guaranteed to get this value back. For me, it's one of the cleanest, most straightforward travel credits out there.

10,000 bonus miles each anniversary

Here's the other credit that offsets the rest of the annual fee. Every year you keep the card, Capital One drops 10,000 bonus miles into your account, just as a thank you for sticking around.

That's worth at least $100 toward travel, too. I see this as a built-in discount for keeping the card long term -- and it's a nice little surprise to wake up to each year.

2X miles on everyday purchases

Unlike category-based business cards, this one keeps it simple. You get:

  • 10X miles on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One's travel booking site
  • 5X miles on flights and vacation rentals booked through Capital One's travel booking site

Then 2X miles per dollar on all other purchases.

That means no rotating categories, no complicated tracking of where you spent money. It's just steady, predictable rewards.

Better yet, miles never expire as long as you keep the account open. So if you want to bank them up and save for a big redemption, go for it!

Massive welcome bonus

Right now, you can earn 150,000 Miles when you spend $30,000 in the first 3 months of account opening.

Pro tip: This card is best for businesses with high early spend. If you're outfitting an office, stocking up inventory, or covering vendor payments, this is a golden welcome offer opportunity.

Premium travel perks

This card brings the heat when it comes to travel benefits.

  • Unlimited lounge access: Capital One Lounges + Priority Pass Select
  • TSA PreCheck/Global Entry: Statement credit every four years
  • Cellphone protection and trip insurance built in

I usually recommend business owners pair a solid business card with a personal travel card to cover all the bases. But honestly, this one already includes most of the big perks. It's nice not having to stack multiple cards just to get the good stuff.

Free employee cards

There's no extra fee for adding authorized users to your account. That means you can equip your team (or your spouse who helps with biz expenses) with cards linked to the same account and watch those 2X miles roll in, without paying a penny more.

Downsides you should consider

As much as I like this card, it's not perfect for everyone. Here are a couple potential drawbacks to keep in mind before you apply.

Pay-in-full requirement

This isn't a typical credit card. The Capital One Venture X Business is a charge card. This means it doesn't have a preset spending limit, but you're expected to pay the full balance each month.

It's a great way to avoid business debt… but not ideal if you need to carry a balance.

High minimum spend for the welcome bonus

That 150,000-mile bonus is sweet… but the $30,000 spending requirement in 3 months is a tall order for some businesses. Make sure you've got big purchases planned before applying.

Is the Capital One Venture X Business worth the annual fee?

Yes, the annual fee is extremely reasonable and can be easily offset by just a couple perks.

If you add up the $300 annual travel credit and the 10,000 anniversary bonus points, there's $400 in travel value right there. So you'll have earned the cost of the $395 fee back if you take advantage of those perks.

Everything is gravy after that!

Final thoughts

I've always liked the Venture card lineup, both business and personal versions. They've got the rare combo of simplicity and real value.

The 2X miles make everyday spending really easy. And the travel perks are genuinely useful. This all makes the annual fee a non-issue for small business owners.

  • No. This is a charge card, not a traditional credit card. You must pay off your balance in full each month.

  • Not at all. Sole proprietors, freelancers, and side hustlers are welcome to apply -- you'll just use your Social Security number instead of an EIN.

  • Yes! While travel redemptions usually offer the best value, you can also redeem miles for statement credits, gift cards, or transfers to airline and hotel partners.
