Dining out is one of my favorite ways to spend money, but I don't like leaving rewards on the table. The right credit card can turn every restaurant bill, takeout order, or coffee run into valuable cash back or travel points. I've rounded up the best dining credit cards so you can earn more on the meals you're already paying for. Whether you want simple cash back or premium rewards, these cards make your spending work harder.
Our aim is to maintain a balanced best-of list featuring top-scoring credit cards from reputable brands. 'Best for' category selections on this page are determined by our editors, and a single card may be recognized in multiple categories.

I like this card for its first-year boost: 6% cash back for the first year in the category of your choice -- including dining. After that, it drops to 3%, which is still solid for a no-annual-fee card. Just keep in mind the maximum rewards rates are capped at $2,500 in combined purchases per quarter in the choice category (like dining), and at grocery stores and wholesale clubs, then earn unlimited 1% thereafter. So it works best if you're not a huge spender.

This one's an easy recommendation: 3% cash back on dining, entertainment, popular streaming services and at grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart® and Target®) with a $0 annual fee (see rates and fees).
You don't see that often in the no-annual-fee space, which makes this card a go-to if you want straightforward rewards without the hassle of points or categories.

Dining cards give you bonus rewards whenever you spend at restaurants, coffee shops, fast food, or even delivery apps.
Rewards come in two flavors: cash back or points. Cash back is simple: you spend, you earn a percentage back, and you can redeem it as a statement credit. Points take a little more strategy but can be worth more. For example, 3% cash back is good, but 3X points you transfer to an airline program could end up being worth more toward travel.
Not all dining cards are created equal. Here are a few things I always check before applying:
Dining cards are best for people who regularly eat out, grab takeout, or order delivery. If you live in a city, travel often, or just spend a big chunk of your budget on food outside the house, a dining card can pay off quickly.
They're also a great fit if you want to make your meals work harder, whether that's offsetting your monthly restaurant spend with cash back or stacking up points for your next vacation.
Probably not. If most of your food budget goes to groceries instead of restaurants, you'd likely earn more with a grocery rewards card or a flat-rate cash back card.
Most cards are pretty generous here. Restaurants, fast food, bars, coffee shops, and delivery services like Uber Eats or DoorDash usually qualify.
What doesn't count is just as important: groceries, convenience stores, and meal kit subscriptions typically fall outside the "dining" category. If you're unsure, check the card issuer's fine print. You want to know for certain what you'll be rewarded for before applying.
Cash back is straightforward: you spend, you get a percentage back, and you can redeem it as a statement credit. Points take a little more strategy, but they can be worth more. For example, 3% cash back on dining is great, but 3X points that you transfer to a travel partner could end up being worth 4% or 5% depending on how you redeem them.
You can, but I wouldn't recommend it long-term. Interest charges will wipe out any rewards you earn. If you need breathing room on big expenses, a card like Chase Freedom Unlimited® offers 15 months of 0% intro APR on balance transfer and purchases, which gives you some flexibility without the hit of immediate interest. (After the intro period ends, an 18.99% - 28.49% Variable APR applies.)
Ideally, you want to pay your balance in full to get the most out of your rewards.
