You'll also earn:

Apply for the Amex Gold Card today (see rates and fees) and start earning 60,000 Membership Rewards® Points after spending $6,000 in the first 6 months upon approval.

3. Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card

The Capital One Savor Cash Rewards Credit Card offers unlimited 3% cash back on dining, entertainment, popular streaming services and at grocery stores (excluding superstores like Walmart® and Target®). That's not as high of an earning rate as the Amex Blue Cash Preferred, but there's also no annual spending cap.

Other benefits include:

  • 8% cash back on Capital One Entertainment purchases
  • 5% cash back on hotels and rental cars booked through Capital One Travel
  • 1% on all other purchases

This card also has a $0 annual fee, making it a great option for high grocery spenders who want simple, unlimited cash back.

Which grocery card is best?

That depends on your spending.

If your main goal is to earn the most cash back on groceries, the Amex Blue Cash Preferred offers the most value -- especially if you spend less than $13,000 a year. Above that threshold, the Capital One Savor becomes a better choice, and the Amex Gold Card eventually catches up if you spend $25,000 or more on groceries.

While those numbers only take supermarket spending into account -- not other perks or earnings rates -- it's a good rule of thumb if you're only worried about groceries.
