KEY POINTS

  • Capital One has one premium airport lounge, but it's about to open two more.
  • The company is opening lounges as a perk for its higher-end credit card members, and some get free access.
  • The lounges are stocked with amenities and can easily be worth the cost of card membership for frequent travelers.

Many people aren't aware that Capital One has its own airport lounges at all. And there's a good reason -- as of August, there's only one open lounge, at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). It opened in November 2021 and is intended to be a direct competitor to the Centurion Lounges operated by American Express.

However, the lounge network is about to expand, with new locations set to open at Washington (Dulles) and Denver. The Dulles location is going to be 9,100 square feet, which is in the mid-range for modern lounges, and is located in the base of the existing historic control tower. The Denver lounge is a bit larger at 11,200 square feet, and is located on the mezzanine of concourse A.

Both new lounges are set to open in September, although it's not uncommon for lounge openings to be delayed, so stay tuned for a finalized opening date for each of the new spaces. But with that in mind, here's a rundown of what Capital One Lounges offer and how you can get in, both for free and for a fee.

What can you find in Capital One's airport lounges?

Capital One lounges are designed to be a step up from the lounges operated by the airlines, such as the Admirals Club lounges run by American Airlines and the Sky Clubs that Delta offers. They are designed to be on-par with other high-end lounges, especially the American Express Centurion Lounges.

In Capital One's lounges, travelers will find amenities including:

  • High-speed wifi access
  • A food station with various small-plate dining options
  • Grab-and-go packaged food such as sandwiches, salads, and fruit
  • Fully stocked bars with complimentary beer, wine, and cocktails
  • Coffee bars
  • Work areas that are semi-private and equipped with charging stations
  • Relaxation rooms for travelers to nap
  • Secure luggage lockers
  • Cycling and yoga rooms, equipped with Peloton bikes
  • Family areas designed for members traveling with young children
  • Soundproof rooms for prayer or meditation

Can all Capital One cardholders get in?

Sort of. In fact, all travelers can come in -- for a price. Access to the Capital One Lounges is complimentary to one degree or another for two specific groups of cardholders.

Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card holders get unlimited complimentary access to the lounges as part of the card's $395 annual fee and members can also bring two guests per visit. Additional guests cost $45 per visit, and it's worth noting that kids under 2 years old are free with all admitted adults.

Meanwhile, these two credit cards each offer two complimentary lounge visits per year:

Additional visits are $45 each, and guests cost $45 each as well (although cardholders can use their complementary visits to pay for a guest).

Finally, if you don't have one of the Capital One credit cards mentioned here, you can still access the Capital One Lounges, but it costs $65 per visit.

Is lounge access worth getting one of these Capital One cards?

Many reviews have said Capital One's lounge in Dallas is one of the best airport lounges in the U.S., and with the network expanding, it could certainly be worth paying the annual fee on the Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card for frequent travelers who fly through any of these airports often.
