Citi Prestige Offering 5x Points on Online, Cable, and Streaming Purchases

If you have the Citi Prestige® Card, you could earn big bonus rewards until the end of the year. Through Dec. 31, 2020, the card earns 5 points per $1 on online, cable, and streaming purchases, up to a maximum of 7,500 points.

This limited-time offer makes one of Citi's best travel credit cards even more useful. Most of its normal bonus categories are travel-related and difficult to benefit from during the pandemic. Citi also previously expanded the Citi Prestige® Card's $250 annual travel credit so it would cover supermarket and restaurant purchases through Dec. 31. Here's a closer look at this latest bonus offer and how valuable it can be.

Which purchases qualify for bonus points?

The Citi Prestige® Card earns 5 points per $1 on the following types of purchases through Dec. 31:

• Online: Online purchases include (but are not limited to) eligible retail, grocery store, and drugstore purchases
• Cable: Payments for eligible cable services
• Streaming: Payments for eligible streaming services, such as Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, and ESPN+

You can earn up to 7,500 bonus points this way, meaning 5 points per $1 bonus rate will be capped at $1,500 in purchases.

All cardholders of the Citi Prestige® Card are eligible for this special offer, and the bonus rate applies automatically to qualifying purchases. You don't need to activate it.

Bonus points on cable and streaming purchases are always welcome, but the highlight is obviously the bonus points on online purchases. You could earn lots of extra rewards if you do your holiday shopping and/or your grocery shopping online.

Redeeming Citi ThankYou points

Citi ThankYou points are some of the most flexible travel rewards available. The best way to redeem them is usually to transfer them to Citi's travel partners. You can then book award travel through the partner's loyalty program. Depending on the travel partner and award booking you choose, it's possible to get $0.03 or more per point.

You also have the option to use points for cash travel bookings through ThankYou Rewards. On this type of redemption, rewards have a value of $0.0125 per point. This is a good backup option if you can't find a way to transfer your points for the travel you want.

Based on those values, the 7,500 ThankYou points you can earn with this special offer should be worth anywhere from $93.75 to over $225.
