KEY POINTS

  • The Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card will no longer offer cardholders access to a valuable rental car loyalty program benefit after Dec. 31, 2024.
  • Through 2024, cardholders who join the Hertz Gold Plus Rewards program and enroll in this cardmember benefit will qualify for President's Circle status.

In recent years, some credit card issuers have changed their cards by removing perks. Rewards credit cards can provide value thanks to their benefits and reward potential. But it's essential to stay on top of credit card benefit changes to maximize the value you get from your cards.

One rental car benefit will no longer be available to Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card holders in 2025. Here's what you need to know about the upcoming change.

No more elite-status loyalty program perks with Hertz

The Capital One Venture X Card is on our list of the best travel rewards credit cards for good reason. Travelers appreciate that it offers up to $300 in travel credit statement credits each year, airport lounge access, and plentiful rewards potential.

Featured offer: save money while you pay off debt with one of these top-rated balance transfer credit cards

But this card has undergone changes. Capital One announced that cardholders would no longer qualify for Priority Pass restaurant credits beginning in 2023. The Priority Pass perks offered only apply to eligible airport lounges. More card benefit changes are planned.

A current benefit offered to Capital One Venture X Card holders who enroll in the perk is complimentary President's Circle status through Hertz's Gold Plus Rewards loyalty program. This is the highest tier membership level available to loyalty members.

Members must have at least 15 rentals in a calendar year to achieve this status level or meet the minimum $3,000 in car rental spending, excluding taxes and fees. However, Capital One Venture X Card holders qualify for an automatic upgrade without meeting these conditions.

Unfortunately, this benefit will no longer be available to cardholders after Dec. 31, 2024. This will likely be disappointing news for frequent travelers because they will qualify for fewer Hertz rental car perks.

Hertz Gold Plus Rewards President's Circle status members enjoy the following benefits:

  • Earn 1.5 points per $1 spent
  • Guaranteed one car class upgrade (maximum upgrade to a full-size vehicle)
  • Widest selection of rental cars available
  • Free additional driver (no fees for spouse or domestic partners in the U.S.)
  • Dedicated customer service line

Within the Capital One Venture X Card terms listed on Capital One's website, there's a note that this benefit will no longer be available to cardholders in 2025. The terms for this card state that after Dec. 31, 2024, cardholders will "be reverted to the level commensurate with Hertz standard usage policies."

What does that mean exactly? Travelers will have to wait and see if Capital One or Hertz provide more clarity at a later date about what level that might be. This upcoming benefit change news is worth knowing if you rent cars when traveling.

Consider this credit card if rental car status is at the top of your list

If the idea of no longer earning complimentary President's Circle status thanks to your credit card perks is disappointing, you may want to explore other credit card options. The Platinum Card® from American Express is another favorite credit card for frequent travelers.

While its annual fee is steep (see rates and fees), this credit card offers complimentary status to cardholders who enroll in Hertz's Gold Plus Rewards program. Terms apply. Cardholders who join the Avis Preferred and National Car Rental Emerald Club rewards programs can earn complimentary status. Terms apply.

This rewards credit card includes other travel benefits, including premium car rental protection. Terms apply. Adding this credit card to your wallet may be worthwhile if you rent cars when traveling. For other card options, check out our list of the best credit cards.
