KEY POINTS

  • The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card comes with some excellent benefits, including up to 5X points per $1 on a range of spending categories.
  • A few less-discussed perks include access to the Visa Signature concierge service and partner benefits through Lyft and DoorDash.
  • You also get primary rental car insurance.

Back in the spring, I was very excited to apply and be approved for the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. I selected this card specifically because I wanted access to more travel benefits and knew that Chase Ultimate Reward Points are among the most valuable credit card rewards out there.

This Chase card in particular has a lot of fans, and it's a great option for travelers who also spend a lot on dining purchases (it earns 3 points per $1 in this category). It also has a great welcome bonus and comes without a foreign transaction fee -- I happily used my Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card on my trips outside the U.S. this year.

All of these perks have been discussed to death, though. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card also comes with a few other card benefits that deserve a little attention. Here are three little-known perks of this credit card.

1. Chase concierge service

Did you know that your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card comes with access to the Chase concierge service? I actually just learned about this. The Chase concierge is operated by the card's network, which is Visa. A credit card concierge service works kind of like a concierge in a high-end hotel -- when you call, you can get help with making a restaurant reservation, ordering a special gift, or getting tickets to an event or attraction.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is a Visa Signature card, so you can reach the Visa Signature Concierge at 800-953-7392. The service is free, but anything you purchase via the concierge will be charged to your credit card.

2. Rental car insurance

I have a vacation coming up in a few months that will see me renting cars for a few days of the trip, so I was excited to dig into the details of this perk. Ideally, rental car insurance is the kind of benefit you don't use at all, because it means that something has gone wrong. But I will feel better renting cars and knowing that Chase has my back with primary rental car insurance.

If something bad happens to your rental car (say, it gets stolen or you get into a fender bender), you file your insurance claim directly with Chase, rather than with your personal auto insurer. The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card provides coverage up to the actual value of most rental cars. Of course, you must have paid for the rental with your card (and deny similar insurance coverage from the rental car company). I hope I don't have cause to use Chase Sapphire rental car insurance, but it's nice to know I'll have it.

3. Sweet partner benefits

Some perks that come with your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card are only temporary, but they are still quite valuable if you can use them. (Plus, using all the perks of your card will make that $95 annual fee worth it.) The two I've been enjoying most lately and that deserve to be highlighted are offered through Lyft and DoorDash. You can currently get 5X points per $1 on rides with Lyft, a ride-hailing app. This deal is good through March 31, 2025, and could really come in handy if you're traveling or take Lyft rides at home.

Another great partner benefit available with your Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card right now is a complimentary DoorDash DashPass subscription. You get a minimum of one year when you activate the subscription by Dec. 31, 2024. I'm a big fan of DoorDash, and DashPass in particular is a great way to order takeout and delivery more easily -- you'll likely find listings for a lot of great restaurants in your area. Having DashPass means you'll save on delivery and other fees, too -- just don't forget to tip your delivery driver! You also get 5% back in DoorDash credit when you place an order for pickup.

All in all, I've been pleased with my Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. It's worth taking the time to dig into your credit card's less-flashy perks, because you never know what gems you'll find.
