KEY POINTS

  • Although a date for Prime Day has not yet been announced, there's a good chance it'll happen in July like last year.
  • I'm hoping to score a new iPad, treadmill, and ice cream maker on sale.

My Amazon Prime membership is worth it to me for several reasons. Not only does the option to get free two-day shipping save me lots of time and numerous trips to the store, but I also tend to utilize Amazon's free content, from TV shows to music to books.

Another perk of being a Prime member is getting access to deals during Amazon's Prime Day mega shopping event. Last year, Prime Day took place over two days in July. This year's Prime Day dates have not been announced as of this writing, but it's fair to assume that a summertime event is in the cards. Here are some items I'm hoping to scoop up once those deals start dropping.

1. A new iPad

Having an iPad is convenient for me. I can read books on it, access the internet, and even work when I don't have my laptop. But my current iPad is pretty old and doesn't hold a charge for very long. So it's on my list of electronics to replace in the near term.

The problem with iPads is that they're not cheap, and I don't want to raid my savings account too badly to buy a new one. So I'm hoping Amazon will have some deals on iPads during its Prime Day event.

Right now, Amazon has a 9th generation iPad available for $269.99. That's not a terrible price, but if I can snag an even lower one, well, that's better.

2. A new treadmill

I happen to really hate running on a treadmill and will generally subject myself to cold, rainy weather rather than run in place in my basement. But there are days when the weather just really isn't conducive to an outdoor run -- like when it's utterly pouring or 15 degrees outside. And so a treadmill is an item I generally need to have on hand.

Mine is pretty old, though, and it's starting to wear out, so I'm due for a replacement. Right now, Amazon has a folding treadmill available for $399.99, but I'm hoping to snag an even better deal on Prime Day.

3. A Ninja CREAMi ice cream maker

A lot of people are raving about this particular ice cream maker, which lets you make everything from gelato to smoothies. Now here's a confession -- I already have an ice cream maker, so I cannot justify buying this item at full price, which is $199.99 on Amazon right now. But if the price drops on Prime Day, I might scoop it up and see if it does a better job than my current ice cream maker.

It's also a lot smaller, which is helpful. A big reason my current ice cream maker doesn't get so much use is that it's heavy and cumbersome. But the Ninja CREAMi is the sort of gadget I can conceivably leave out on my counter all summer long and still have room for other things.

The last thing I want is an unreasonably large credit card tab following Amazon Prime Day. So if the above items aren't offered at competitive prices, I'll probably just pass -- especially on the last one, which is totally a want more so than a need. Either way, I'm trying to save up extra money now so that if great Prime Day deals do arise, I'll be able to take advantage.
