InterDigital is hiring an investment banker to smoke out suitors, and that's enough to get investors drooling at the buyout possibilities. It's the perfect time for InterDigital to consider punching out through this "strategic review," given its patent-rich portfolio at a time when intellectual property in the wireless communications realm is going through the roof.

SFN Group surged after the staffing services provider announced that it would be acquired by Netherlands-based Randstad in a deal valued at more than $710 million. The buyout would double Randstad's presence in this country, making it the third largest staffing specialist in North America.

New Energy Systems took off after introducing three new products for tablets. The Chinese maker of lithium ion batteries and backup power systems will begin offering mobile power models to charge up iPads, Xooms, and Galaxy Tabs.

Quepasa turned into Speedy Gonzales after the company behind its namesake fledgling social networking site for Latinos announced that it would be buying the even larger social gaming hub myYearbook at an attractive price.

Cepheid made genetics electric on Friday after the molecular diagnostics company posted better than expected quarterly results. Strong sales of its GeneXpert DNA testing system led to a modest quarterly profit, humbling analysts that were braced for a small deficit.
