Interactive Brokers (IBKR -1.01%) is to pay a special dividend by the end of the year, the company announced in a press release.

That dividend is $1.00 per share on the firm's common stock. It will be paid on Dec. 28 to shareholders of record as of Dec. 21.

All told, the company's aggregate amount in payouts will total $409 million, which Interactive anticipates will be available from cash on hand.

Many companies are initiating special and/or "accelerated" dividend payouts to reward their shareholders before 2013, since dividend taxes will rise sharply if key elements of the "fiscal cliff" are not avoided.
