NEW YORK (AP) -- The dollar is mixed against other major currencies as traders await developments of budget talks in Washington.
Traders have been worried that lawmakers won't reach a deal in time to avoid a series of steep tax increases and government spending cuts that are set to kick in at the beginning of next year unless the White House and Congress agree on how to reduce the budget deficit.
The euro fell to $1.3236 in afternoon trading from $1.3247 late Wednesday.
The British pound rose to $1.6277 from $1.6258.
The dollar fell to 84.29 Japanese yen from 84.42 Japanese yen.
The dollar was flat at 0.9121 Swiss franc.
