Video-streaming specialist Boxee is no longer an independent company. In a post on its home page, the company revealed that it has been acquired by Korean electronics giant Samsung (NASDAQOTH: SSNLF). The latter firm confirmed the news via a statement emailed to media outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, adding that a "substantial" part of Boxee's workforce would join Samsung.The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Boxee's TV set-top devices allow users to record, store, and stream broadcast content. The company was founded in 2007, and it has managed to raise $26.5 million in venture capital financing.
