DETROIT (AP) -- Chrysler Group has named a new head of its Chrysler brand.

The company said Monday that Al Gardner has been appointed president and CEO of the Chrysler brand. Gardner is a 27-year veteran of Chrysler who most recently served as head of the company's Southeast Business Center.

Gardner replaces Saad Chehab, who was named chief marketing officer of Maserati. Italian automaker Fiat SpA, which owns a controlling stake in Chrysler, also owns Maserati.

The Chrysler and Maserati brands are both poised for growth with new vehicles in the pipeline. The 2014 Maserati Quattroporte sedan recently went on sale, and a smaller sedan and SUV are due out soon. Meanwhile, Chrysler is preparing to roll out a redesigned Chrysler 200 sedan next year.

The moves are effective immediately.
