In the thick of the third earnings season of 2015, the stock market just finished a disappointing week. From Monday morning to Friday night, the S&P 500 index fell 1.3%, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite market barometer lost 1.7%, and the Dow Jones Industrials index dove all the way to an 1.8% haircut. But some tech stocks took the road less traveled and rose at least 15% from Monday morning to Friday night.
Solar-panel manufacturer First Solar (FSLR 8.70%) soared 18% higher on a stellar earnings report, and processor designer NVIDIA (NVDA 1.28%) swung to a 15% gain along the same route. Completing the trifecta, telecom services seller Windstream Holdings (WINMQ) reversed a brutal downtrend to a 16% gain, based on another earnings surprise.
